Lily Hristova - International Women's Spotlight

International Women’s Week at Senseye

During International Women’s Week, we want to put a spotlight on our female team members here at Senseye. Each day we will publish an interview with an inspirational woman and find out about their career journey, role models and aspirations. Senseye believes in maximizing effectiveness through multiple different data feeds. We also apply this to our people, in the belief that each person brings a valuable new skillset and new perspective to the team, enhancing effectiveness.

In the spotlight: Lily Hristova, based in Southampton, UK.

What is your role at Senseye, and what are your typical daily tasks and activities?

As an Associate Product Manager, I help to shape various features and functionality of the product. I work with a fantastic product team, including a UX designer and user interaction specialist, to develop and manage its roadmap using agile software development methods. Acting as a liaison between the management, science, and engineering teams, I aim to deliver the highest quality of software features for our current and potential users.

We provide product expertise and make strategic decisions on how our product will look in the future. Generating ideas, developing those ideas into features, and planning their implementation and broader promotion is steps to keep pushing the product strategy and, hence, our business forward.

What has been your career journey to date?

I completed my Bachelor's degree at Sofia Technical University in Telecommunications Engineering and subsequently embarked on a master's program in Wireless Communications at the University of Southampton. I have always worked in the digital field throughout my career and have been part of a few start-up companies, as I enjoy the culture and possibilities that present themselves.

I started my professional journey initially in account management and customer-oriented roles, focusing on growing client relationships. Moving to product management was the logical career progression for me, as what better way to make sure the customer is happy than to offer them the best possible product in the field!

Previously I have been a product manager working on offering a full digital portfolio for garages. Still, I was eager for a more technical challenge and am currently thoroughly enjoying the fast-growing field of predictive maintenance and Industry 4.0.

Who would you consider a role model?

For me, Anna Wintour is a brilliant example of a strong and inspirational woman. She is editor-in-chief of American Vogue and artistic director of Condé Nast, a fashion industry icon, active charity supporter, and a Dame of the British Empire, while also mothering two children! I deeply admire her dedication and passion, work ethic, and creativity. She is a fantastic leader and always remains supportive and nurturing to the talented people she has helped discover.

And secondly, the brightest example I have for a strong and inspirational woman is my nan. She has just turned 88 years old, has overcome many hardships in her life, worked incredibly hard, and managed to build a better life for my mother and me from nothing – and always remained kind and caring for those less fortunate.

What do you enjoy outside of work?

I'm mum to my gorgeous little boy, Daniel, who is just five months old, so now all my free time is dedicated to him. Babies don't like sharing attention! Senseye has been amazing and supported me throughout my entire pregnancy and motherhood. Everyone has been so caring and thoughtful and made this time so easy and even more special for me, to which I am grateful.

Before I became a mum and had some free time, I loved long walks in the countryside with my fiancée and packing in as many city breaks as we could afford. I particularly enjoy cooking. Like almost every other person during the lockdown, I did a lot of baking, producing various cakes and loaves of bread, much to my partner's delight! In the last couple of years, I have also developed an interest in allotment gardening, and we're currently enjoying a delicious harvest of fresh veggies from our plot.

What do you hope to accomplish at Senseye?

Senseye as a company provides an inspirational environment for professional growth. I love being surrounded by incredibly bright and talented people from different fields, such as physics, machine learning, UX design, engineering, and sales. I can further develop my knowledge and talents as a product owner, gain more experience in the industry and learn new skills every day. This experience is helping me deliver an exceptional quality product with unique features to all of our current and future customers, which aids Senseye in our role as the top leader in the predictive maintenance market.
